I know the series is meant to be a mindfuck but I was wondering if watching it in English might actually help? or does the dub lose to much in translation , or the dub acting is bad? |

At the same time, its acceptable, and the only really bad voice actor is the mother. I don't know how accurate the translation is or how the sub compares, but the dub isn't too bad. I'm not certain the dub is legally available for free, but I think it may on hulu or youtube. |

I prefer the sub because I feel the VA for Lain was better at portraying the subtle differences in Lain's personality as the series progressed, but again, you can't go wrong with either. Oh, and you posted in the wrong board. |

Though allegedly, the subtitle translations for SEL were altered to soften the anti-Western/anti-American elements in the script, so it's going to be inaccurate either way.IMO It would be SUB because in the SUB the translator try the dialogue to be the more accurate possible to what the characters try to say... that's the reason I don't like DUBS... I'd say the English dub is listenable, but unless you're a diehard dub fan, the Japanese version will be somewhat better for you. And unlike AngelDarkNinja, I've seen the show, in both languages no less. |
